History

Costa Lazaridi’s vision began in 1979 when he planted the first modern vineyard on his private estate in Xiropotamos, Drama, on the slopes of Mount Falakro. This pioneering step laid the foundation for the region’s modern winemaking history.

On his private estate, Costa Lazaridi established the first modern winery in Drama. The initial wines, Château Lazaridi, received praise and paved the way for the future series.

Under Costa Lazaridi’s leadership, his brother Nico joined the company, sharing the same vision for a time. Eventually, their wine journeys took different directions.

In the same year, two iconic series are released: Amethystos and Idoniko.
Amethystos Blanc, the original blend of Drama, is Costa Lazaridi’s signature wine.
Idoniko Tsipouro, with and without anise, is introduced, the first of its kind in Northern Greece, elevating the Greek spirits category.

Inspired by his wife Julia, Costa Lazaridi dedicates Château Julia, an emblematic series of single-variety wines, to her.

The Methexis collection of fine distillates debuts with Methexis Moscato.

Planting of a new 20-hectare organic vineyard at the shores of Lake Marathon, in Kapandriti, Attica.

Construction of the Oenotria Land Estate in Kapandriti – a venue that hosts social and cultural experiences and includes our boutique winery and vineyards.

Building on our winemaking expertise, we created the first aged balsamic vinegars from our own grapes: Botanico Red Seal and Botanico Gold Seal.

The first Oenotria Land wines are released, showcasing the unique character of Lake Marathon.

Building on the success of previous wine and spirit releases, the lifestyle single-vineyard Domaine Costa Lazaridi wines make their debut and Idoniko ouzo joins the spirits family.
To meet the challenges of climate change, we planted our vineyard in Katafyto in the same year, at an elevation of 900 meters.

The second generation, Gerasimos and George, joins the company, assuming roles in leadership and winemaking.

Introduction of Costa Lazaridi’s first sparkling wine, Blanc de Blancs, produced using the traditional Champagne method.

In Paros, renowned for its winemaking tradition, we cultivate five hectares of privately owned vineyards featuring indigenous grape varieties, primarily Assyrtiko.
This strategic initiative establishes the foundation for the third Estates Costa Lazaridi winery.

We became the first winery in Greece to receive internationally recognized Regenerative Viticulture certification for the vineyards on the slopes of Drama and the organic vineyards on the shores of Lake Marathon.
